“What was unique about working with Momentum was that it was a like a partnership. The momentum staff was emotionally involved in the design of their new office, and the personal character of Momentum’s culture and its individual employees shines through.”
– Diana Pisone, Team Principal
Momentum provides its clients with a total brand experience, and it worked with TMA to reflect its own line of work within the new workspace. Hanging in the lobby, in a nod to its suburban heritage, is the glowing red sign that sat atop its previous office building.
Momentum had relocated to downtown St. Louis from its suburban office space of nearly 15 years. There, the company occupied two floors of a four-story office building, and had unused space. Momentum decided to downsize to meet its operational needs – it was no longer necessary to have as many private offices or multiple support spaces, and a relocation to downtown fit this new chapter in its history.
The general theme for furniture and finishes is restricted and neutral, but the graphic displays and wall coverings inject color and eclecticism into the workspace.
The project did not have a generous budget for furniture or accessories, but Momentum and TMA used this to the project’s advantage by mixing a lot of Momentum’s previous furniture with some new items.
With existing furniture and other unique touches like the homemade typewriter key wall, TMA utilized lighting and paint to create distinct zones and moods, as well as to make the space pop.
A townhall space dubbed “The Pit,” accommodates company gatherings. Momentum has a special tradition of annual chili cook-offs, and this area was designed to function both as a meeting and gathering place. Raised risers made with reclaimed wood and the company’s manifesto placed on the wall act as inspiration during company meetings. The location of the townhall within the office’s rectangular floor plan was strategically selected, too. It has a clear view of the famous St. Louis Arch.
The café/pantry contains a wall that reads “mmm…” in red glowing letters. These letters were also recycled from the logo that sat on the exterior of Momentum’s old building. The dots on the end of the “mmm” have a separate use of their own – when one of the private phone booths is occupied, a dot lights up.
