Sterling National Bank wanted to update its ultra-traditional corporate interiors on the second floor of the building, which houses mainly a sales and telemarketing workforce. As the new workspace doesn’t have a reception area on its second floor, a large maple wood feature wall with the company logo greets employees as they come in.

Around the corner from the entrance, a glass vector image of New York and Long Island is placed in a hallway directing employees to the café, where an acoustical ceiling with a gray felt material is mounted in an irregular grid of shapes.

Thorough conceptual planning was realized in part through a strong circulation path, highlighted by cement-textured tile and wood laminate ceiling panels, angled to reflect the exterior facade of the building.

The circulation path guides employees through the various zones of open-plan workspaces, open collaborative areas, and enclosed interactive spaces, color-coded by TMA’s branding team for ease of wayfinding.

Along the glass front walls of their conference, focus, and lounge spaces, located near the core of the office, Sterling elected to integrate slogans as signage to motivate their staff.

Sterling’s vision consisted of predominately open-plan benching workstations and open collaborative spaces distributed strategically throughout an elongated rectangular floor plate, with no private offices – opposite to their previous office scheme.

The company logo dictates the purple accents found in some of the furnishings, supported by a mostly neutral palette of grays in the carpet and furniture, as well as wooden tones.
