Continental Grain
For the 200-year-old, family-owned Continental Grain Company, TMA created a design aesthetic that took visual cues from the international style of classic modern design.
An oversized reception area provides a warm welcome for visitors, and can accommodate large gatherings of employees and clients as a conferencing center.
Continental Grain has an extensive art collection that includes paintings, sculptures, and ship models. The architectural design allows opportunities for art display throughout the office, such as the gallery organized along the prominent corridor for the main reception and conferencing space.
The furniture maintains a simple functional profile that does not detract from the artwork, accentuated by occasional tables that are sculptural in their own right.
For private offices, floor-to-ceiling glass fronts in sleek, black frames with sliding double doors create a sense of transparency. These offices have built-in conferencing technology.
The doors into these rooms are synchronized double sliders that (with a simple pulling motion) open the offices into an open-plan environment, reinforcing the client's “open door” policy and desire to foster collaboration.
Accessible to smaller firms affiliated with CGC that lease space on the floor, the central cafe contains wood veneer panels and engineered stone counter-tops that add sophistication to the design.
